What is a metal roof retro-fit?

A new roof. Without tearing off the old one.

An aging or leaking metal roof doesn’t always need to be removed. DLC’s metal roof retrofit system allows us to install a new, high-performance membrane roofing system directly over the existing metal roof—eliminating the cost, disruption, and exposure associated with a complete tear-off.

We begin by filling the spaces between the metal roof ribs with rigid insulation, creating a solid base over the existing panels. Additional insulation or cover board is then installed to create a smooth, durable surface. A new TPO or PVC membrane is installed over the assembly and secured to the building structure, typically using induction-welded attachment.

The result is a watertight, insulated membrane roof system without exposing the interior of your building to the elements. Retrofit systems can also improve the roof’s thermal performance, eliminate many of the common leak points associated with aging metal roofs, and provide decades of additional service life.

For facilities where removing the existing metal roof would be costly, disruptive, or impractical, a membrane retrofit can be a smarter way to reroof.
